MICROFINANCE EVENT: AlHuda CIBE to Host Global Islamic Microfinance Forum, October 6-8, 2013, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Cost: The cost for Pakistani participants to attend is PKR 35,000 (USD 359) for the forum plus PKR 40,000 (USD 410) for the two-day workshop. For participants from other countries, the costs are USD 950 and USD 955, respectively.

Summary of Event: The forum on October 6 will bring together microfinance supporters and practitioners in an effort to “increase the scope and trend of Islamic Micro Financing in the developing and under developed countries… [to help] the poor to survive to their best.” Topics include conceptual framework and policies; outreach and stability; the Qard e-Hasn model for Islamic microfinance; and the current status, strategies and future potential of Islamic microfinance. The forum will be followed by a two-day workshop on October 7 and 8, which will focus on Shariah principles, operational mechanisms and marketing strategies for Islamic microfinance. Islamic finance is designed to comply with Islamic law, the Shariah, which bars practices such as the charging of interest, by using concepts such as joint venture and profit sharing.

Background on Organizer: Located in Pakistan, AlHuda Center of Islamic Banking and Islamic Economics (CIBE) is a nonprofit organization that specializes in research, training and consulting in the Islamic microfinance industry. The organization also provides technical assistance in the area of Shariah law, organizes distance learning programs and publishes a monthly newsletter on Islamic microfinance.
