Cost: Tickets for the summit are available at a rate of USD 200, with an early bird registration rate of USD 150 available until August 31, 2014. Participants who wish to attend only the first, introductory day of the summit may purchase a ticket for a rate of USD 75, with an early bird registration rate of USD 50 available until August 31, 2014. A full conference package, which includes room and board in double or triple accommodations at the MacKinnon Suites is available at a rate of USD 350, with an early bird registration rate of USD 300 available until August 31, 2014. A full conference package with room and board in a single room at the MacKinnon Suites costs USD 450, with an early bird registration rate of USD 400 available until August 31, 2014.

Summary of Event: The summit will include three tracks of sessions (1) technical, (2) financial inclusion, and (3) business. The technical track will introduce the Mifos X technology platform to potential users and provide hands-on training, collaborative technical sessions and educational workshops for existing users, developers, implementers and managers of the technology. The financial inclusion track will discuss the latest trends for financial inclusion, including branchless banking, client protectionism and mobile money. The business track will discuss how to use the Mifos X platform for building a business, creating sales and marketing strategies, developing new services and optimizing business processes. The summit will also provide the opportunity for participants to discuss technical and business case studies. The program of the event includes site visits to local financial institutions in Kampala, Uganda. Additionally, the summit will provide participants opportunities to network, share experiences, brainstorm and discover “innovative” technologies that support financial inclusion. The event aims to bring together executives and managers of microfinance institutions (MFIs) and financial inclusion providers, information technology professionals, operations professionals, software developers and funders.

Background on Organizers: The Mifos Initiative, formerly known as the Community for Open Source Microfinance (COSM), is an independent nonprofit organization based in the US state of Washington that manages and develops Mifos X, an open-source software system for MFIs. Between 2006 and 2011, the Grameen Technology Centre based in the US city of Seattle, Washington developed the delivery and support of the Mifos technology.
