Summary of Events: The conference – which is sponsored by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group – will offer an opportunity for debate and reflection on how to revert to the core principles of microfinance and how to reorient the industry towards a balanced growth given the fact that the rapid growth of microfinance is being increasingly associated with overindebtedness and other misfortunes of poor people. Also to be addressed are flaws in the ways that microfinance institutions (MFIs) do business that have been exposed by the global financial downturn.
