Cost: The cost for representatives from the private sector is EUR 1,290 (USD 1,747); for those from nonprofit organizations, it is EUR 690 (USD 934); and for those from nonprofit organizations headquartered in a least developed country it is EUR 300 (USD 406). Tiered discounts for each group are available for registrations received before September 1 and October 15, 2014. Speakers and facilitators may attend the conference free of charge and may apply for a travel grant that covers economy-class travel costs.

Summary of Event: The conference targets representatives from the insurance and reinsurance sector, non-governmental organizations, development-aid agencies as well as academics, policymakers, and regulatory authorities. Participants will discuss recent market trends and developments in the microinsurance sector with regard to health, life, and agricultural microinsurance as well as bundled microinsurance products. Discussions will focus on seven sub-topic areas within microinsurance: (1) product development and underwriting; (2) product distribution; (3) operations and information technology; (4) education, marketing and sales; (5) services for migrant workers and their families; (6) successes and failures; and (7) economic analysis of microinsurance markets. The language of the conference will be English. During certain session Spanish translation services will be available.

Background on Organizer: The conference will be hosted by the Munich Re Foundation and the Microinsurance Network. The Munich Re Foundation, which was established in 2005 by Munich Re, a German reinsurance company, seeks risk-reducing solutions in the context of international development and globalization, concentrating on population growth, urbanization, diminishing resources, environmental pollution and climate change. The foundation is actively involved in the fields of education and training, science and research, disaster prevention, environmental protection, and public healthcare. Originally established in 2002 as the CGAP (Consultative Group to Assist the Poor) Working Group on Microinsurance, the Microinsurance Network was spun off as an independent organization in 2009. Based in Luxembourg, the membership organization aims to promote the development of insurance products for low-income populations by providing a platform for information sharing and stakeholder coordination. As of 2014, it reports approximately 70 member organizations.
