MICROCAPITAL EVENT: Muhammad Yunus to Present New Book, Creating a World Without Poverty: Social Business and the Future of Capitalism

BOOK PRESENTATION TOURS by MUHAMMAD YUNUS

JANUARY 11 – 24, 2008, VARIOUS DATES AND LOCATIONS

Muhammad Yunus, 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner for his work on microcredit in Bangladesh, will present his new book, entitled Creating a World Without Poverty: Social Business and the Future of Capitalism. In this book, Yunus outlines his vision of a new business model that is driven not by profit, but rather by the principle of social benefit. Social business is the next phase of social and economic development to be spearheaded by the Grameen Bank and the microlending movement.

Yunus’ book contains three central themes. First, he addresses the complexities of poverty, and proposes that it is generated by shortcomings in economic, social, and political systems. The second theme is the role of women as the driving force of social change. Third, Yunus advocates the importance of technology in decentralizing economic and political power. Creating a World Without Poverty is Yunus’ second book, and expands ideas contained in his first book, Banker to the Poor, which tells the story of how the Grameen Bank began and introduces microcredit as a tool for fighting poverty.
