MICROCAPITAL EVENT: MOBILE COMMERCE 2008 EVENT IN MOSCOW, RUSSIA

DECEMBER 3-4, 2008, MOSCOW, RUSSIA

The Mobile Payments Project of the Infocommunication Union has organized Mobile Commerce 2008, an international conference meant to draw the government’s and businesses’ attention to problems and opportunities relating to the development of the domestic mobile commerce market and the distribution of remote banking services in Russia. The event will take place from December 3 to December 4, 2008 at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Moscow and has been endorsed by Russia’s Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications. The Central Bank of the Russian Federation will also participate in the conference.

The goal of the conference is to “deliver practical solutions and determine the future for mobile commerce development in Russia and also highlight the prospects of mutually beneficial cooperation and interaction” between businesses and the state. The event will focus on both Russian and international payment methods and their recent developments, especially Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. At the event, participants can expect presentations and workshops by market-makers, regulating agencies, and companies in the world telecommunications market who are working on mobile commerce projects. There will also be a roundtable discussion involving the Legislative Grounds for Mobile Commerce in Russia. The event organizers hope to draw a number of participants from telecommunication and financial markets, sector industries, state governments, regulation agencies and other stakeholders in the mobile commerce market.

Speakers from a variety of organizations will be present at the conference. They include representatives from the Russian Duma, the Russian Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications, and the Central Bank of Russia; leading experts from mobile operators in the region; and representatives from Russian banks and firms who are knowledgeable about mobile payments systems and mobile banking.
