Summary of Event:
This is a brief course for donors and investors, covering the history, trends and fundamentals of how to effectively fund microfinance.

Background on Organizer:
Housed at the World Bank Group, CGAP (Consultative Group to Assist the Poor) is an independent policy and research center dedicated to providing financial access for the world’s poor. CGAP is supported by over thirty development agencies and private foundations. Its mission is to provide market intelligence, to promote standards and to offer advisory services to governments, microfinance providers, donors and investors.

Schedule:
The short course (three days) will cover a broad overview of microfinance. The full course (five days) will allow participants to apply skills and knowledge learned throughout the course to assess a funding request using a case study. A detailed schedule can be found in the course brochure.

Who Is Invited to Attend:
The course is primarily designed for project managers and investment officers making funding decisions on microfinance. People interested in the latest trends and developments in microfinance are also invited to attend.

About the Trainers:
The trainers include: Mr Eric Duflos, a senior microfinance specialist at CGAP working on donor/investor and policy issues; Ms Mayada El-Zoghbi, a senior microfinance specialist at CGAP working on donor and investor issues; Ms Natasa Goronja, MICRA Indonesia’s (the Microfinance Innovation Center for Resources and Alternatives) Executive Director; Ms Alexia Latortue, a senior microfinance specialist at CGAP; and Mr Djibril Maguette Mbengue, a microfinance specialist with CGAP’s Africa Team.
