The latest newsletter of the Women’s World Banking (WWB) Center for Microfinance Leadership, an organization that provides technical and advisory services to microfinance institutions (MFIs) affiliated with WWB, emphasizes the need among MFI leaders for leadership training.Kathryn Mayer, Director of the WWB Center for Microfinance Leadership, highlights the WWB’s “Adaptive Leadership” training method, which is based on the idea that there are no immediate answers to unexpected challenges and that leaders should act strategically rather than defensively when facing new obstacles.
Featured in the newsletter is Rita Cardoso, Executive President of Banco de Familia, a WWB network member in Brazil, who launched an in-house leadership training program after running a leadership needs assessment with the help of an external consultant. She claims that the program helped build better relationships among co-workers and foster stronger communication [1].
