From 2010 through 2017, the city of Fushun, in northeastern China, invested CNY 2.8 billion (USD 406 million) in a subsidized microcredit program for agriculture, reaching 57,000 female entrepreneurs, primarily those whose husbands live elsewhere for work. The women’s businesses include greenhouses as well as drying and storage facilities for mushrooms and medicinal herbs. Details such as the terms of the loans have not been released.
The Fushun Women’s Federation, a chapter of the All-China Women’s Federation, provided technical assistance to the effort. The All-China Women’s Federation is an NGO associated with the Communist Party of China.
