MICROCAPITAL BRIEF: Triodos Bank Launches Sustainable Pioneer, Sustainable Equity Retail Funds

Triodos Bank, a for-profit financial institution based in the Netherlands, has launched two new investment funds, the Sustainable Pioneer Fund and the Sustainable Equity Fund. The Sustainable Pioneer Fund is an equity fund that focuses on investing in small and medium-sized firms that address issues relating to sustainable energy, medical technology, environmental technology and clean water. The Sustainable Equity Fund is an equity fund that invests in larger-scale firms that meet undisclosed social and environmental performance criteria. Both funds require a minimum investment of EUR 1,000 (USD 1,310).

All of Triodos’s investment decisions go through a screening process intended to block investments in nuclear power, oil, gas , weapons and other hazardous materials. As of year-end 2012, Triodos reported total assets of EUR 5.3 billion (USD 6.96 billion) and 400,000 customers. In addition to the Netherlands, Triodos has operations in Belgium, Germany, the Spain and United Kingdom.
