MICROCAPITAL BRIEF: TransferTo Partners with AT&T, Taiwan Mobile, Korvac Holdings to Allow Customers to Send, Receive Phone Airtime in the Americas and Asia

TransferTo International, a telecommunications company incorporated in Singapore, recently partnered with AT&T, a US-based telecommunications provider, to allow AT&T mobile phone subscribers in the US to execute TransferTo International Top-Ups via short message service (SMS), also known as text messaging. Customers of AT&T will now be able to send pre-paid mobile airtime to cell phones on participating mobile networks in Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and the Philippines with no prior registration or credit card information. To make a transfer, users send a text message with the word “send” along with the receiver’s mobile phone number and the amount of airtime to be gifted to a designated number based on the receiver’s country.

TransferTo also has partnered with Taiwan Mobile, a Taiwan-based telecommunications company incorporated in China, to launch Mobile Talktime Transfer, a service allowing Taiwan Mobile prepaid customers to send prepaid mobile credits to mobile phones in Indonesia and the Philippines via SMS.

Additionally, TransferTo partnered with Korvac Holdings, a Singapore-based payment and information processing company, to launch Mobile AirTime Transfer (MATT), a service allowing users in Singapore to pay USD 5 to send pre-paid mobile airtime minutes to individuals using participating mobile services in Bangladesh, Indonesia, Nepal, the Philippines and Sri Lanka from 7-Eleven establishments. 7-Eleven is a US-based operator, franchisor and licensor of convenience stores with approximately 500 establishments in Singapore. Any minimum or maximum transfer amounts are not specified. According to TransferTo Chief Executive Officer Eric Barber, “We’re proud to team up with Korvac and 7-Eleven to launch this unique service which addresses the needs of the largely underserved foreign worker population in Singapore.”

Pricing for the Taiwan Mobile and AT&T Services has not been released.

As of 2012, TransferTo International reports partnerships with approximately 230 operators in 80 countries serving 3.6 billion prepaid customers.
