MICROCAPITAL BRIEF: The Coalition of Tanzania Microfinance Practitioners and Service Providers Limited Merges With The Tanzania Association of Microfinance Institutions (TAMFI)

» Posted by in Category: Africa,Deals at 12:05 am

The Tanzania Association of Microfinance Institutions (TAMFI) and the Coalition of Tanzania Microfinance Practitioners and Service Providers Limited have recently merged after an independent team that was commissioned last year to resolve the issue recommended that, because they were essentially conducting the same functions, the existence of both institutions was only creating confusion among members and other microfinance stakeholders.

The new organization will use the name Tanzania Association of Microfinance Institutions (TAMFI). General members of the new, combined organization include: Access Bank Tanzania, Akiba Commercial Bank, Dar es Salaam Community Bank, Mama Bahati Foundation (MBF), Mbinga Community Bank (MCB), Mufindi Community Bank, Mwanga Rural Community Bank, Presidential Trust Fund (PTF), PRIDE Tanzania, Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA), Women’s Economic Groups Coordinating Council (WEGCC) and the Youth Self Employment Foundation (YOSEF).

About The Tanzania Association of Microfinance Institutions (TAMFI):

The Tanzania Association of Microfinance Institutions (TAMFI) is an umbrella organization for microfinance institutions (MFIs) operating in Tanzania. TAMFI aims to develop the capability of MFIs in Tanzania through lobbying, advocacy, training, information gathering and dissemination. The Coalition of Tanzanian Microfinance Practitioners and Service Providers Limited merged with TAMFI as of July 27, 2010.
