MICROCAPITAL BRIEF: Spain’s Gawa Capital Partners Launches Global Financial Inclusion Fund for Investing in Microfinance Institutions

Gawa Capital Partners, a Spain-based investment firm specializing in microfinance funds, recently announced its launch of The Global Financial Inclusion Fund, which is slated to invest in microfinance institutions that provide financial services such as loans, microinsurance and savings accounts. Although Gawa Capital has not disclosed whether the fund will be targeting specific regions of the world, its previously launched fund has invested in Asia, Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa. Gawa Capital expects the Global Financial Inclusion Fund to ultimately reach EUR 50 million (USD 62.4 million) in assets.

According to Agustin Vitorica, the Co-founder and Co-Chief Executive Officer of Gawa Capital Partners, “We have an ambitious growth plan which we expect to deliver on by leveraging our existing investor base, the solid operating and risk management platform we built over the years and the close relationships with our investees. In addition to the Spanish market we are also actively fundraising in other European countries and in the US.”

According to the Microfinance Information Exchange (MIX), Gawa Capital Partners has total assets of EUR 20 million (USD 25 million) as of 2014. Other financial information on Gawa Capital is not available.
