Sanabel, an Egypt-based nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing Arab microfinance, recently launched a transparency program called “Shafafeya” that produces comparative analysis, trend analysis and financial highlights of the microfinance sector in the Arab world. The program offers the following three data sets: financial information on the sector in Arab countries; comparative analysis among microfinance institutions (MFIs) within specific time frames; and trend analysis of MFI performance. Shafafeya includes approximately 100 indicators for the performance of MFIs in Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia and Yemen during 2009 and 2010.
Sanabel currently has 89 member institutions from 13 countries, serving 2.8 million clients.

About Sanabel: Sanabel is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing Arab microfinance. It is a network of microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Arab countries that was established in 2002 by 17 founding members from seven countries. In 2004, Sanabel was incorporated and registered as a nonprofit organization in both Atlanta, in the US state of Georgia, and in Cairo, Egypt, where it is headquartered. Sanabel has organized an annual microfinance conference since 2003. Sanabel currently has 89 member institutions from 13 countries, serving 2.8 million clients.
