MICROCAPITAL BRIEF: Pro Mujer Wins Second Annual Morgan Stanley Social Enterprise Strategy Challenge

Morgan Stanley, a global financial services firm based in the US, has declared Pro Mujer, a women’s development and microfinance organization that works in Latin America but is headquartered in New York City, as the winner of the second annual Morgan Stanley Social Enterprise Strategy Challenge. The challenge involved 12 New York City-based nonprofits working with teams of Morgan Stanley employees over the course of eight weeks. The Morgan Stanley staff members provided “in-depth consulting services to address growth issues around business model refinement, program alignment and geographic expansion.” The winning team of Morgan Stanley experts, which was selected based on the quality of impact analysis and advice given, developed an analytical model for Pro Mujer to evaluate and prioritize country options for international expansion. Pro Mujer, along with the second place organization – Credit Where Credit is Due, a financial empowerment organization for residents of New York – and third place organization – Mount Sinai Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention Program (SAVI) – will receive cash grants of unspecified size from Morgan Stanley to help implement the recommended strategies.

The other participating nonprofits were: ACCION USA, The Fresh Air Fund, Harlem Educational Activities Fund, Peace First, Project Enterprise, Summer Search, Teach For America, Wildlife Conservation Society and YM & YWHA (Young Men and Young Women?s Hebrew Association) of Washington Heights and Inwood.
