MICROCAPITAL BRIEF: Pro Mujer Releases First Issue of Publication on Innovative Microfinance Services

» Posted by in Category: Latin America,Trends/Challenges at 12:03 am

Pro Mujer, an international microfinance organization serving 202,000 clients in Latin America, recently released the first issue of a publication that will evaluate field research on new microfinance services. The first issue, entitled, “Delivering Integrated Services to the Rural Poor: Pro Mujer’s Feria Product in Peru,” discusses the implementation, results and risks of the Feria product.

The Feria product, so called because of its decentralized method of distribution at ferias, or rotating rural markets, offers loans, savings and healthcare services in rural areas using a group-based guarantee mechanism. According to Pro Mujer, “The key innovation that has allowed Pro Mujer to extend service deep into rural areas was the decentralized distribution channel or delivery mechanism, which relies on a network of carefully selected rural agencies managed with the disciplined execution of a standardized implementation strategy.”
