MICROCAPITAL BRIEF: Microfinance Service Provider MicroPlanet Technologies Names Daryl Skoog as Executive Director

MicroPlanet Technologies, a US-based nonprofit that offers technology services to microfinance institutions (MFIs), recently named Daryl Skoog as executive director. Prior to accepting this position, Mr Skoog served 12 years as head of the technology department at Opportunity International, a US-based nonprofit organization that focuses on microfinance. During his time with Opportunity International, Mr Skoog oversaw the employment of core banking systems at 23 MFIs and banks and helped deploy automated teller machines (ATMs), smart cards, biometrics, point-of-sale devices (POS) and mobile banking.

MicroPlanet Technologies offers a software-as-a-service (SaaS) banking software platform that provides MFIs core banking software via the internet, hosted and managed by MicroPlanet. MicroPlanet also offers a stand-alone “Managed Services” solution for MFIs that use other core banking software. In addition to software, MicroPlanet provides consulting services in the areas of operational and technology assessment, technology best practices, disaster recovery planning, large-scale project management and front-end technologies like mobile payments and automatic teller machines. At the end of fiscal year 2010, MicroPlanet Technologies reported total assets of USD 68,600.
