MICROCAPITAL BRIEF: Microfinance Investor BlueOrchard of Switzerland Appoints Peter Fanconi as CEO

The board of directors of BlueOrchard, a Swiss microfinance intermediary, recently has appointed Peter A. Fanconi to succeed Wolfgang Landl as the firm’s CEO.Mr Landl, who was appointed CEO in 2012, will remain available to BlueOrchard as an advisor. [1][2]

Mr Fanconi comes to BlueOrchard after serving as the Head of Private Banking for Vontobel Group, a financial services provider located in Zurich, Switzerland. According to Professor Ernst A. Brugger, chairman of the board of BlueOrchard, “Performance goals and risk management are gaining an increasing level of importance in the [microfinance] industry. Together with my colleagues on the Board of Directors, I am convinced that Peter Fanconi is the right person to further develop and expand BlueOrchard in a dynamic and focused manner.” [1]

BlueOrchard has approximately USD 1.1 billion under management as of December 31, 2011.
