MICROCAPITAL BRIEF: Microfinance Information Exchange (MIX) to Offer Validated Social Data from Microfinance Institutions

The Microfinance Information Exchange (MIX), a US-based nonprofit, recently announced plans to release a feature on its MIX Market website in 2013 that will allow users to search for “validated social data” from microfinance institutions (MFIs) and filter out those not reporting such data.

Since 2012, MIX social performance analysts have been reviewing social performance documents submitted to MIX by MFIs. Once the analysts determine that the provided documentation corroborates the data submitted by the MFI, a summary of validated data points is attached to the MFI’s MIX Market profile, along with details on the types of documents used for data validation. MIX intends this to give users “more confidence in, and benefit to an even greater degree from the breadth, depth, and quality of the social performance data available on MIX.”
