MICROCAPITAL BRIEF: MasterCard Foundation Scholarship Applications for Sustainable Microenterprise and Development Program (SMDP) in Tanzania Due by October 4, 2013

MasterCard Foundation, a Canadian organization founded by the US-based payments firm MasterCard, is offering an undisclosed number of full and partial scholarships for African women who have experience in the microenterprise development field to attend the Sustainable Microenterprise and Development Program (SMDP), an educational workshop that will be held in the Tanzanian city of Arusha from November 11-22 of 2013. The program’s emphasis will be on savings groups, value chain development and agricultural finance. The program offers two tracks and related courses with a focus on the most current savings groups programme development, management, monitoring and post-project savings group models and innovative cases.

Scholarship Applications are due by October 4, 2013. The registration deadline for the event is October 11, 2013.

The Sustainable Microenterprise and Development Program (SMDP), housed in the Carsey Institute in the US-based University of New Hampshire, provides training and networking opportunities for practitioners in the fields of microfinance, enterprise development, social enterprise and community-based and rural development. The SMDP offers professional development training with a concentration on program planning, implementation and impact evaluation. Course topics cover a wide range of practices from financial, risk and human resource management, social performance monitoring and evaluation, value chain and market development, social enterprise, microfinance investment readiness, inclusive youth financial services and sustainable responses to climate change.
