The Ministry of Micro-, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the Indian government agency in charge of regulating and supporting MSMEs, reportedly has launched its “Technology Centre Systems Programme,” which involves establishing 15 technology centers and improving the three existing such centers across the country. According to a statement attributed to MSME Minister Kalraj Mishra, the program is intended to improve MSMEs’ access to manufacturing technologies, technical assistance and qualified staff.
In addition to the centers, the Ministry of MSMEs is implementing several other programs to support MSME activity in the country, including the “Technology and Quality Upgradation Programme,” which involves promoting energy efficiency among MSMEs, and the “National Manufacturing Competitiveness Programme for Technology Upgradation of MSMEs,” which focuses on improving the competitiveness of Indian MSMEs by helping them improve production practices [1].
The Ministry of MSMEs reported total operating expenditures of INR 2 trillion (USD 32.9 billion) during the fiscal year ending March 2012 [2]. More recent financial information on the department is not available.
