MICROCAPITAL BRIEF: Grameen Crédit Agricole Microfinance Foundation (GCAMF) Loans $751k to Komida of Indonesia, $812k to Alidé of Benin

Grameen Crédit Agricole Microfinance Foundation (GCAMF), a Luxembourg-based organization that offers financial services to microfinance institutions (MFIs) and social business projects in Sub-Saharan Africa and Eurasia, has recently loaned Koperasi Mitra Dhuafa (Komida), an Indonesian MFI, the local-currency equivalent of USD 751,000 with a three-year term. Komida began offering microloans in August 2005 and provides financial services exclusively to women. As of December 2011, the institution reported total assets of USD 7.7 million, a gross loan portfolio of USD 5.6 million, return on assets (ROA) of 1.95 percent and return on equity (ROE) of 3.80 percent. The institution reported 91,000 active borrowers as of September 2012.

In other news, GCAMF distributed the second half of a loan to Alidé, a Benin-based MFI that was established in 2006. Each of the tranches, the first of which was disbursed in March 2012, is worth the local-currency equivalent of USD 406,000. As of September 2012, Alidé reported approximately 18,000 active borrowers. As of December 2011, the institution reported ROA of 2.01 percent, ROE of 8.87 percent and total assets of USD 4.3 million. Alidé had approximately 30,400 depositors with total deposits of USD 1.9 million at that time.

As of December 31, 2011, GCAMF reports 45 investment projects in 19 countries that support 30 microfinance institutions (MFIs), four social-business projects and one fund that covers foreign-exchange risk.

About Koperasi Mitra Dhuafa
Koperasi Mitra Dhuafa (Komida) was established in 2004 in Jakarta, Indonesia. The institution received technical assistance from Grameen Bank, a microfinance bank established in Bangladesh, and began offering microloans in August 2005. Komida provides financing exclusively to women. As of December 31, 2011, the institution reported to the US-based nonprofit Microfinance Information Exchange (MIX) total assets of USD 7.7 million, a gross loan portfolio of USD 5.6 million, return on assets (ROA) of 1.95 percent, return on equity (ROE) of 3.80 percent and approximately 45,500 depositors with total deposits of USD 531,000. The institution had 91,000 active borrowers as of September 2012.

About Alidé
Alidé is a Benin-based MFI that was established in 2006 as an outgrowth of a United Nations Development Program initiative. Alidé’s stated mission is to provide sustainable credit, savings and financial services to people living in poor neighborhoods of Benin. As of September 2012, the institution had approximately 18,000 active borrowers. As of December 2011, the institution reported return on assets (ROA) of 2.01 percent and return on equity (ROE) of 8.87 percent and total assets stood at USD 4.3 million. Alidé had approximately 30,400 depositors with total deposits of USD 1.9 million as of December 2011.
