The Gambia Women’s Finance Association (GAWFA), a nonprofit organization in Gambia with approximately 49,000 members, reportedly has adopted software developed by Towerplane, a Spanish software company, that allows the microfinance institution to provide services outside of bank branches using mobile devices. The system includes functionality that allows GAWFA staff to enter client information without an Internet connection to be reconciled at a later time.
GAWFA reported to the US-based nonprofit Microfinance Information Exchange (MIX) total assets of USD 662,485, 3,620 active borrowers, deposits for USD 131,519 and 5,959 active depositors as of 2011. It also reported a gross loan portfolio USD 192,771 as of the same year. More recent financial information on GAWFA is unavailable.
