MICROCAPITAL BRIEF: Fondazione Giordano Dell’Amore, European Microfinance Network Announce Fifth Edition of $67k Giordano Dell’Amore Microfinance Good Practices Europe Award

Fondazione Giordano Dell’Amore, an Italian foundation that supports microfinance, and the European Microfinance Network, a Belgian nonprofit with 99 members, have announced the fifth annual edition of the Giordano Dell’Amore Microfinance Good Practices Europe Award, which seeks to elevate the profile of best practices among actors in the European microfinance industry. The theme of this year’s award is “innovation,” a topic that is meant to reflect the need for new ideas and alternatives in order to create a sustainable and impactful microfinance industry.

The deadline for applications, which must be submitted in English, has been extended to February 24, 2013. European organizations involved in providing financial services to those traditionally lacking access to mainstream financial products, either in the European Union or in Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland, are eligible to apply.

The winner will be awarded EUR 50,000 (USD 67,000), which may be used to fund new or existing projects in Europe. The winner will be announced at the 10th European Microfinance Network Annual Conference to be held on June 25 and June 26, 2013 in Stockholm, Sweden.

The winner in 2012 was Kosovo’s KosInvest, a microfinance institution dedicated to providing poor families with access to financial services.

About European Microfinance Network (EMN):

The European Microfinance Network (EMN), a non-governmental organization based in Belgium, aims to bring together microfinance practitioners and others involved in microfinance activities in Europe with the purpose of promoting microfinance, self-employment and microentreprise development based on good practices, and to improve the regulatory framework for microfinance at the European Union and member state levels. The foundation is a member of Rete Italiana di Microfinanza (RITMI), the Italian microfinance network, and is associated with the European Microfinance Network (EMN), a Belgian nonprofit organization with 99 members.
