The European Microfinance Platform (e-MFP), a Luxembourg-based network of approximately 130 microfinance organizations and individuals, has announced the 5th European Microfinance Award, which is themed “Microfinance and the Environment” to celebrate institutions offering new initiatives in environmental stewardship and sustainability in natural resources management. An award of EUR 100,000 (USD 132,000) will be presented by the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs – Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Affairs on November 13, 2014, during European Microfinance Week, an annual set of working group meetings and conference sessions. Eligible institutions must be based in a developing country and active in the financial sector. The application form for the award is available at e-MFP’s website with a deadline for submission of June 15, 2014.
The European Microfinance Award began in 2006 as a biannual event, but is now held annually. It is jointly organized by the Luxembourg Development Cooperation, a government agency that seeks to aid health, microfinance and vocational training initiatives in the developing world; the Luxembourg Ministry of Finance; the European Microfinance Platform (e-MFP); and Inclusive Finance Network Luxembourg in cooperation with the European Investment Bank (EIB), the long-term lending bank of the European Union.

The European Microfinance Platform (e-MFP) is a network of approximately 140 microfinance organizations and individuals. Its objective is to promote cooperation among European microfinance institutions working in developing countries by facilitating communication and the exchange of information. e-MFP members include banks, financial institutions, government agencies, NGOs, consultancy firms, researchers and universities.
