MICROCAPITAL BRIEF: European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Plans to Invest $20m in Da Vinci Private Equity Fund II for Financial Infrastructure SMEs in Commonwealth of Independent States

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), a multilateral financial institution based in London, plans to invest up to USD 20 million in the Da Vinci Private Equity Fund II, which invests in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) operating in the financial infrastructure sector in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), which is composed of the former Soviet republics. The fund has a target size of USD 200 million and is managed by asset manager Da Vinci Capital Management, which has offices Guernsey, Moscow and London. The total amount raised by the fund has not been released.

The intended impact of the investment from EBRD is to promote market expansion, promote the development of financial infrastructure in the region and improve transparency and corporate governance within companies in which Da Vinci invests. The EBRD investment is pending final review within the bank.

In 2011, EBRD disbursed a total of EUR 6.7 billion (USD 8.3 billion). Financial data on Da Vinci Capital Management is not public.
