MICROCAPITAL BRIEF: Call for Proposals for 10th International Microinsurance Conference, Hosted by Munich Re Foundation, Microinsurance Network, Mexico City, November 11-13, 2014

Munich Re Foundation, a German nonprofit organization affiliated with reinsurer Munich Re, and the Microinsurance Network, a Luxembourg-based membership organization that seeks to improve access to insurance for poor people, recently issued a call for proposals for presentations to be made at the 10th International Microinsurance Conference. Within the overarching theme of microinsurance, the organizers have identified seven sub-topic areas that will be considered for conference sessions: (1) product development and underwriting; (2) distribution; (3) operations and information technology; (4) education, marketing and sales; (5) services for migrant workers and their families; (6) successes and failures; and (7) economic market analyses.

Proposals may be submitted by completing an application form, which can be downloaded at http://www.munichre-foundation.org/dms/MRS/Documents/Microinsurance/2014_IMC/IMC2014Proposal_form_distributed.pdf. The deadline for the applications is May 15, 2014.

The conference will be held in Mexico City, Mexico, from November 11 – 13, 2014, and will feature keynote speeches, panel discussions and networking sessions exploring the opportunities, trends and challenges in the global microinsurance sector.

Originally established in 2002 as the CGAP (Consultative Group to Assist the Poor) Working Group on Microinsurance, the Microinsurance Network was spun off as an independent organization in 2009 and obtained legal status in May 2012. Based in Luxembourg, the membership organization aims to promote the development of insurance products for low-income populations by providing a platform for information sharing and stakeholder coordination. As of 2013, it reported 65 member organizations.
