MICROCAPITAL BRIEF: Banking with the Poor (BWTP) Network, South Asian Microfinance Network, Citi Host “Invest Asia: Panel Discussion and Market Place” at Asia Microfinance Forum 2010

The Banking with the Poor (BWTP) Network, an Asian microfinance network based in Singapore; the South Asian Microfinance Network, an initiative to promote economic development in South Asia; and Citi, an affiliate of global financial services provider Citi plan to host “Invest Asia: Panel Discussion and Market Place” on October 14 during the Asia Microfinance Forum. The first part of the event will be a 75-minute moderated panel discussion called “Investment Landscape in Asia” which will focus on the “current investment climate in Asia, including a discussion of challenges and opportunities for both investors and [microfinance institutions].” The second part of the event will be a “moderated market place for investors and microfinance institutions (MFIs) to meet and forge business linkages.” The marketplace will reportedly have representatives from approximately 15 international investors and 30 MFIs from Asia [1].

There are currently no details on speakers available.

The Banking with the Poor Network (BWTP Network), an Asian microfinance network based in Singapore, is an initiative of the Foundation for Development Cooperation, an Australian-based not-for-profit international development organization. The Network is an association of a “diverse range of microfinance stakeholders committed to improving the quality of life of the poor through promoting and facilitating their access to sustainable financial services.” It reports to, but does not list financial data on, the Microfinance Information Exchange (MIX) website.
