MICROCAPITAL BRIEF: Banking Production Centre’s SmartVista to Implement Banking Technology for Microfinance Institution Hattha Kaksekar of Cambodia

Hattha Kaksekar Limited (HKL), a Cambodian microfinance institution (MFI), has contracted Russia-based Banking Production Centre (BPC) Banking Technologies’ SmartVista, an electronic payments product provider, to implement electronic banking for the MFI. BPC will install SmartVista software in automated teller machines (ATMs) for HKL clients. Borrowers will then be able to withdraw and make payments towards their loans using these ATMs and eventually mobile phones. The service also allows customers to process all transactions at ATMs without cards through the use of biometric technology.

For fiscal year 2011, HKL reported to the US-based nonprofit data provider Microfinance Information Exchange (MIX) total assets of USD 86.8 million, a gross loan portfolio of USD 75.3 million and approximately 62,700 borrowers. HKL also reported return on assets (ROA) of 4.50 percent and return on equity (ROE) of 22.49 percent. Financials for BPC are unavailable.
