MICROCAPITAL BRIEF: African Women Invited to Apply for MasterCard Foundation Scholarships for Sustainable Microenterprise and Development Program (SMDP) in Ghana by February 7, 2014

MasterCard Foundation, a Canadian organization founded by the US-based payments firm MasterCard, is offering an undisclosed number of scholarships, ranging from USD 1,000 to USD 4,500, for women in Africa who have at least two years of work experience in the microenterprise development field to attend the Sustainable Microenterprise and Development Program (SMDP), an educational workshop that will be held in the Accra, Ghana, from March 10-21, 2014. Scholarship Applications are due by February 7, 2014. The participants can enrol for the first week, the second week or both. The program’s emphasis will be on microfinance management principles and practices, risk management for microfinance institutions (MFIs) and agriculture value chain financing.

About Sustainable Microenterprise Development Program (SMDP)

The Sustainable Microenterprise and Development Program (SMDP), housed in the Carsey Institute in the US-based University of New Hampshire, provides training and networking opportunities for practitioners in the fields of microfinance, enterprise development, social enterprise and community-based and rural development. SMDP offers professional development training with a concentration on program planning, implementation and impact evaluation. Course topics cover a  range of practices from financial, risk and human resource management, social performance monitoring and evaluation, value chain and market development, social enterprise, microfinance investment readiness, inclusive youth financial services and sustainable responses to climate change.
