MICROCAPITAL BRIEF: African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States, European Union Offering Scholarships for Government Officials to Attend Boulder Microfinance Training Programme

The African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States’ (ACP’s) and the European Union’s (EU’s) Microfinance Framework Programme, a multinational effort that invests in microfinance projects in 80 countries, has announced that it is accepting applications from government officials from ACP member countries for 25 scholarships to attend the Italy-based session of the Boulder Microfinance Training Programme (BMTP), which is run by the US-based nonprofit Boulder Institute of Microfinance.  The scholarships, worth USD 4,500 each, will cover tuition expenses to attend the training programme, but applicants must demonstrate the ability to pay for travel and accommodations. Candidates also must be proficient in either English or French.

BMTP will take place at the International Training Center of the UN’s International Labor Organization (ILO) in Turin, Italy, from July 15, 2013, to August 2, 2013. Applications must be submitted online by May 6, 2013 using the following website: http://eu-acp-boulder-scholarships.itcilo.org/application/index.html. BMTP also holds a Spanish-language course annually in Montevideo, Uruguay.

The African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP), which has 80 member countries as of 2011, and the European Union (EU) launched the ACP/EU Microfinance Framework Programme (ACP/EU Microfinance Programme) in January 2005. The programme intends to support the dissemination of good practices in microfinance. The programme has a budget of EUR 15 million (USD 21.3 million) from the ninth European Development Fund, the main EU “instrument for providing community aid for development cooperation in the ACP states and Overseas Countries and Territories (OCT).”

About the Boulder Institute of Microfinance

Founded in 2004, the Boulder Institute of Microfinance (BIM) is a US-based nonprofit that provides annual microfinance training programs to professionals in the microfinance industry. The institute’s Boulder Microfinance Training Programme takes place in English and French at the International Training Center of the International Labour Organization in Turin, Italy. BMTP also holds a Spanish-language course annually in Montevideo, Uruguay. Since its inception, the Boulder Microfinance Training Programme has trained approximately 4,500 microfinance professionals from 145 different countries as of 2013.
