Description:
The Reserve Bank of Malawi regulates commercial banks and non-bank financial institutions. The responsibilities of the Bank are to ensure the soundness of the financial system through the licensing process and regular supervision of the financial sector. Non-profit organizations are regulated by the Registrar of Companies, which only reviews annual returns of private sector microfinance companies. Unlicensed microfinance non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have limited review under the Council for Non-Governmental Organizations in Malawi.
