Mexico-National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV)

Overview:
National Banking and Securities Commission (Comision Nacional Bancaria Y De Valores) is the regulatory and supervisory authority in Mexico with virtually every type of banking and financial institution under its purview.
Description:
In Mexico, each type of financial institution faces different reporting requirements and licensing requirements. CNBV regulates Sociedades Financieras de Objeto Limitado (SOFOLES) which are non-bank financial institutions permitted to provide loans to specified sectors and obtain funds through loans or issuing equity/debt instruments.  They cannot receive funds through deposits. In addition, CNBV monitors microfinance activity of NGOs only for illegal financial services. NGOs are otherwise unregulated. CNBV is supervised by the Secretary of Finance and Public Credit.
