Overview:
Established in 1942, the Bank of Thailand (BOT) has responsibility for all central banking functions.
Description:
BOT regulates commercial banks, Bank of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) and non-bank financial institutions. BAAC institutions provide loans to farmers, farmers’ groups, and agricultural cooperatives. In 2007, BOT undertook the restructuring of the banking sector in order to provide windows for both commercial banks and retail banks to conduct microfinance services.
