Exceeding Expectations for Microfinance Investment: Share Price Soars in Equity Bank’s First Official Listing at Nairobi Stock Exchange

Kenya’s Equity Bank is the second microfinance institution in the world to be listed with its initial offering on the Nairobi Stock Exchange (NSE). In the first 30 minutes of trading, in which prices of new shares listed at the exchange are determined by market forces, Equity Bank share prices had increased 47%, reaching Sh158 (or US$2.29).
